Artist Spotlight – Ceri
It’s another artist spotlight and today we get real deep with the dame of deep house, Ceri. No stranger to nightclubs and electronic music her life literally surrounds music, and it shows in her productions.
–your known for your productions in deep house, dark and dubby tech, mainroom underground, tech house and techno. What do you prefer to produce/ DJ?
I like producing all forms of music, I’ve done so many different things but obviously all forms of house are my favourite. As well as dance music I also like making music for films which is quite different but just as fun.
–You grew up in nightclubs prior to becoming a DJ/ Producer, if you could play a set at any venue, current or past where would you play and why?
I would have loved to have been alive when Paradise Garage in New York or the warehouse in Chicago was around and have experienced that first hand.
–“Cookie Funk” led to “Something’s Cooking” and recently your song “Would You” was released, what’s next and what should we pay attention to?
September 3rd saw the release of my remix of Al Bradley and Carlo Gambino on 3am and I’ve also just finished a remix for Wiggle. I’m working on some collaborations, remixes and original tracks as well.
–In addition to being a producer and dj you’re a philanthropist want to plug “Rave to Save” real quick?
Well I don’t know about being a philanthropist but I put on a club night to raise money for charity. All the profits go to a different UK charity each year and I try and make sure that the event is an event that people want to come to, rather than trying to make people feel obliged to go because it’s for a good cause. There are so many fundraising activates going on now ,so to make a difference and stand out you have to make sure that people will want to come to the event regardless of weather it’s for charity or not or they will go elsewhere. That’s why I chose DJ’s like Matt Tolfrey, Subb-an, Daniel and Rossko, Blackhall and Bookless and D.E.S., it was a line up that Londoners would get excited about, all the DJ’s agreed to play for a reduced fee, and everyone had a great night! The next event is in planning stages and should be happening early next year.
-There’s not a lot of well known female DJ’s, how is it being part of such a treasured minority?
It’s fine I don’t really think about it too much, although it can be annoying when people suggest that you only got where you are because you’re a girl. If anyone tries to book me just coz I’m a girl and haven’t actually heard me play then I tell them to do one. A lot of people think it’s easier for girls but I think it’s harder in a way as you have more to prove.
